The Wilson Center recently announced the Program Assistant position needed for the Canada Institute. Please read the following information carefully before applying.

SALARY: WW-303-05 ($34,759.00)
This position may have promotion potential to grade 07
LOCATION: WASHINGTON, D.C.

DUTIES:
- Logistical coordination of Canada Institute activities and events, which may include drafting and sending invitations; making travel and hotel arrangements; arranging for rooms and catering; preparation of travel vouchers to reimburse speakers and staff members for expenses; and other necessary logistical services
- Receiving all visitors and telephone calls; providing information related to the programs and their activities and/or the Wilson Center
- Managing spreadsheets and preparing a variety of forms, correspondence, and reports on a computer
- Maintaining an updated database with contact information for those interested in all Canada Institute programs, activities, and publications;
- General management of the program’s web sites; assist with the Canada Institute blog sites, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, and other social media
- Maintaining financial records; tracking expenditures as compared to program budgets; compiling monthly, yearly, grant-related, and ad-hoc fund reports; preparation of long-term fiscal projects (budgets); and management of monthly accounting details
- Preparation of purchase orders, petty cash vouchers, and a variety of other forms to facilitate management of program activities
- Serving as the point of contact for Fellows/Scholars assigned to the Canada Institute and the Polar Initiative, providing tours of the Center, and assisting them while at the Center
- Organization and maintenance of all files for the Canada Institute
- Assisting with copy-editing, preparation, and dissemination of publications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have one year of specialized office automation experience at the next lower grade level or equivalent professional experience performed outside the general schedule. For the experience to be creditable, an applicant must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Appropriate education, such as a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, maybe substituted for this required experience.
SELECTIVE FACTORS (required):
- General accounting/budgetary skills to track expenses, income, and funds obligations.
- Ability to type 40 wpm (you must note your typing ability on your application materials).
- Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style of presentation.
QUALITY RANKING FACTORS (desirable):
- Experience using spreadsheet software to track and manage budgets.
- Ability to handle the logistical arrangements for conferences and meetings.
- Ability to communicate (read, speak, and write) in French.
- Ability to manage social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
